Try several search engines to see the differences between them. You'll soon find some favorite search engines that you will use most often. However, don't forget that each search engine will come up with different results, so be sure to know a little about several search engines and directories. A collection of search engines organized by category at Search Engine Watch lists choices in various categories (major search engines, metacrawlers, specialty search engines, kids search engines, etc.
- IMSA Search Engine- excellent tool for student researchers to locate information
- Yahoo
- HotBot
- Excite
- Jump City best of the Web keyword-searchable and listable in a variety of ways.
- Lycos Easy to use, especially when refining searches, allows selecting pictures, sounds, etc.
- Reference.com- Advanced search capabilities of archive of publicly-accessible mailing lists, news-groups, etc.

- Yahoo or Yahooligans Huge, easy to use web directory without a detailed description of the sites.
