Superintendent's Biographical Information

    Mr. Barry has served as Superintendent of Carrollton C.U.S.D. #1 since 1993.  He enjoys his family, music, traveling and attending all the school events. He is a member of the Carrollton Lion's Club and the District One Foundation. He also serves on the "Illinois Association of School Administrators" Legislative Committee and the "Association for Rural and Small Schools" Board of Directors. In addition, Mr. Barry helps maintain the family farm located a few miles south of Hardin.

    Mr. Barry graduated from Calhoun H.S. in 1971, attended college at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for one year and transferred to Illinois College where he graduated with a teaching degree in Physics and Math. Mr. Barry's first teaching/coaching position was at Nauvoo-Colusa Jr.- Sr. High School in 1976.  After one year, he moved back to Calhoun accepting a science teaching and coaching position in the Brussels School District. After receiving his Educational Administration degree at SIUE in 1979, he assumed the duties of high school principal at Brussels. He then became the Superintendent of the district in 1985 and while maintaining some teaching, coaching and principal duties, served as superintendent until 1992. After accepting the job of principal at Carrollton High School,  Mr. Barry and his family then moved to Carrollton. The following year, he became the Superintendent and has served in that capacity ever since.

    Mr. & Mrs. Barry have two children, Stacy and Ross, both in Dallas. They also have one grandchild, Anika, in Dallas. Mr. Barry recently announced that he will be retiring from the Carrollton School District as of June 30, 2008.
